Invitation

We are pleased to announce the call for abstracts for the 9th National Australian Wound Management Association Conference to be held in Sydney, 18-21 March 2012. The conference theme, Harbouring Wound Care – Integument, Integrity and Innovation provides a wonderful opportunity for a diverse group of health care professionals, educators, researchers and scientists from across our nation and beyond its shores, to gather together. Conference participants, from novice to expert, will be able to discuss, explore, question and challenge current knowledge and practice in the speciality area of acute and chronic wound prevention and management.

The Scientific Program Committee (SPC) members are committed in the planning and delivery of conference sessions that are of an international standing, including invited plenary session speakers from both around the country and overseas. It is our aim to address issues relating to both acute and chronic wound management, for a variety of populations and health care settings, and include topics for discussion that will challenge and inspire those that attend. Plenary themes include unique skin / wound management challenges faced during natural disasters, implications and costs of both acute and chronic wound infection, chronic disease and chronic wounds, evidence in wound management, measuring outcomes and innovation that enables others, to name just a few.

We aim to include plenary, concurrent and poster presentations that not only reflect the range and diversity of clinical and research activities undertaken by the AWMA members, but that acknowledges other professional associations and experts with whom we often 'rub shoulders', when addressing the often complex and challenging needs of the person and their wound.

Since the formation of the SPC in February 2011 we have been thrilled with the responses from both our national and international invited speakers. The recurrent message in their response to attend and take part in AWMA 2012 has been ‘It is an honour to be invited, I would love to be involved, what a wonderful opportunity to learn together.’ ....and that is exactly what a national conference is about.

So we look forward with anticipation to your abstract submission and the opportunity for you to share with us all during the concurrent sessions or in the poster hall of this conference.
